Shezan, at least, will understand if I ask ...

I know I’ve been ill, but what the devil – or rather, what in the name of Mark Steyn and Ezra Levant – is wrong with Canada these days?  Labour have much to answer for in Britain, but – I had hoped that the US would not be the only place left in the Anglosphere where free speech remains.

I shouldn't think so, no.

I really shouldn't imagine it is, at all.

I know what I think (probably much the same thing as you) but not being Canadian, I couldn't very well explain. Others (chickenfeet2003 comes to mind as one of the saner ones) will no doubt see it differently.

I realise the mouse police never sleep...

... but thought police? In CANADA?

(Yes, yes, I'll stop with the Tull jokes.)

Put not your faith in princes.

Or Dave. Quite.

Best case scenario?

The Liberals develop some sort of coherent policies and a bit of a spine or Gordon starts going back left of centre. Doubt either will happen.

Mere dreams.

Coherence? From that lot? Pfft.

Admittedly

that was said in a weak moment of more hope than expectation.

The problem with Canada is that, once the British Empire was gone (do you agree with me that it was really destroyed by Macmillan's treacherous and blundering attempt to enter the EEC in the early sixties, which, once revealed, informed the white dominions that Britain no longer cared a fig about them?), it had no identity of its own except for the biggest and most resonant inferiority complex in two hemispheres. Canadians began to define themselves by being everything their southern neighbours were not, out of jealousy and envy for their colossal neighbours. Hence such lunacies as having, not just a National Health Service, but a Health Service that FORBIDS private medicine; hence the rewriting of human rights as meaning everyting old Jefferson did not mean them to mean.

Hmm.

Oh Canada

Still, Canada looks pretty good to me if Huckabee wins the presidency.

I shouldn't worry.

Not a chance, I'd say, even of the nomination.

Re: I shouldn't worry.

Certainly that would be a relief if he doesn't even get the nomination.
