Worth staying up for, what?
A sober assesment later.

For now, more champers (Bollinger, please, old boy, if you would).

I posted about the collapse of Labour, though I doubt you would agree with all my diagnosis. However, you may be pleased to hear that in my view this represents a historic collapse, with the left splitting between Lib Dems and what is left of Labour, which will prevent either of them from winning a lot of elections in the future.

I did see that, thanks.

Vy interesting. What you call the PC tendency of course is simply the post-Xian version of the Nonconformist conscience, still meddling away (DLG's ghost!).

I fear my own coming analyses will be more aridly psephological.

Boris, my Boris

What a dreadful day for Labour. Wonderful news, in my opinion. Also, the chubby bundle of fun that is Boris Johnson. Outstanding. Intelligence and humour all in one fluffy blond package. Can't say fairer than that. I'd commenr further (and more coherently) but I have the beginnings of a dreadful hangover.

A bad day for Labour is always a good day for the country.

So much so that even the resulting celebratory hangover has its charms.

And, my, are those who underestimate ABdePJ, for it now.

Re: Boris, my Boris

Ah Boris, the Andrex puppy of politicians (a chubby bundle of fun, a fluffy blond package!) but thankfully intelligent with it.

Here's hoping he doesn't screw it up - there are a large number of vengeful people waiting for the slightest slip. My flist has been unreadable in parts today.

And what a shame he's going to have to get more careful with his womanising, just as I move up to London. ;)

[edited for clarity and then I thought of something else]

Re: Boris, my Boris

Thanks for that! The Andrex puppy comparison had not occured to me, but my hangover is now receding and I see where you're coming from!

I hope he doesn't screw up. It's a rare thing in politics to find someone who is unashamedly intelligent, good fun and willing to laugh at themselves. Boris should never be under-estimated.

As for the local election - Durham's new Unitary Authority is now Labour-run. I despair. Round here, it doesn't matter how badly Labour treats them, people keep going back to them like a battered wife. Frustrating doesn't even begin to cover it.

Congratulations, both on local elections and the London mayor! Also: count your blessings that you don't have a political party with a religious manifesto. Enjoy the Tory victory, and yay Boris! (I also lack coherence but it is Saturday and school holiday). Will Moët do?
wemyss From: wemyss Date: May 3rd, 2008 11:47 am (UTC) (Link)

(Slurps gratefully at the Moet) Yes, thanks, it will do.

And that's a blessing I'll count gratefully.

Re: (Slurps gratefully at the Moet) Yes, thanks, it will do.

My personal gripes about our own government snuck in there...being governed by the Christian Democratic Appeal is probably equal to your recent political woes (and the other party that won is now in the opposition because nobody would form a coalition with them), so I can really sympathise with your recent misgivings. Enjoy the bubbly!

Thank you.

I shall.

Good times ahead. I hope you aren't feeling too many after-effects this morning.

xx

Thanks, and, some hope, respectively.

Worth it, though.

Bloody stupid Labour. Ken was never going to win this election.

I went to see Boris when he was speaking at Kings Conservative club and he does speak rather well. (And no I didn't heckle. My friends would have throttled me).

We'll see what he does now and who he appoints to advise him.

I confide that you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Watch this space.

Re: I confide that you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Well hopefully. I was desperately wanting the Tories to do well in our locals so we could get a hung council. Alas it was not to be.

I miss Humph.

He would have managed to work in Samantha and a hung cllr here.

A couple of Humph esque jokes

Record researcher Samantha has made one of her customary visits to the gramophone library, where she runs errands for the kindly old archivists, such as nipping out to fetch their sandwiches. Their favourite treat is cheese with home made chutney, but they never object when she palms them off with relish.

RIP Humph. May Samantha Rest Eternally On Your Right Hand.

I understand that attending the funeral will be Mr & Mrs Blues and their wayward daughter Penelope, that's right, Bad Penny Blues.

"the lone piper of time appears at the gates of dawn, and Dawn throws open the window and tells him where to stick his bagpipes..."

Spot on. Love it - and you. Bless.

I dare you to write the lyrics for "knees up, Gordon Brown", to suit the occasion.
