Torquemada calling

This week I propounded:

‘Herd of neddish stirks loitering in Kirkintilloch, swilling Buckie (six letters).

‘Anyone may solve.’

It being Monday, here is the answer:

Oxgang.

My appalling geography has been a constant bane with cryptics ... Thanks for putting me out of my misery.

Dear me, that takes me back to when No. 1 Daughter, aged 3, had a hearing test, carried out by Junior Audiologist, supervised by Senior Audiologist: she had to point to the picture of what JA said.

JA: Dog.
Daughter points to dog.
JA: Ball.
Daughter points to ball.
JA: House.
Daughter points to house.
JA: Stirk.
Blank stare from daughter.
SA: Right, you've been home for a couple of weeks, haven't you?

Och, aye, mmphm.

You know, I was thinking of you when I presented this cryptic. I seem to recall an 'oxgang' pun about eighteen months ago?
