Two matters.
  1. Ngaio Marsh lives!  http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/7777086.stm
  2. Winter Advantage No 549: The trench-coat, like the dinner suit, makes anyone look dashing.

I'm sure it makes you look wonderful, but some it simply makes look like exhibitionists.

Peace,
Bubba

Or exhibitors.

Which gets us into Gervase Fen rather than Rory Alleyn....

Let's not find out, shall we?

No, really. Let's not.

Re: Or exhibitors.

The upside being that FEn was a great deal sexier.

Bubba

Oh my paws and whiskers.

Fen?

You're merely unhappy with Rory because Troy nobbled him.

Re: Oh my paws and whiskers.

Indeed!

I was thinkiong of you last night when I received Alan Hollinghurst's book the Spell in the post. Have you read any of his books? It's foolosh to think you haven't, but I just wondered about your thoughts on them.

Peace,
Bubba

Hollers?

Intellectualised, self-consciously ‘literary’ class-porn (and race-porn, for that matter). Fetishises Tories; doesn’t understand them. Fetishises the upper classes; doesn’t understand them, either. Moments of sublimity in vast arid stretches of the utterly silly. Arch, twee, and unrelentingly mannered.

And his books are just like him.

Re: Hollers?

LOL!

But please don't tell me what you're really thinking. I like his books but am of the same opinion about much of what you've written here. His caricaturizations of people in the upper classes always made me think that maybe he'd never met any. Being a Magdalen man that can't possibly be true though can it? Just feeling guilty for having so much money I suppose.

Peace,
Bubba

Oh, he's met them.

Known them. Often Biblically.

Understood 'em? Well, that's another matter altogether (ALL: That's another matter!).

Re: Oh, he's met them.

LOL! You are irrepressible. I have little doubt that he has known some of the biblically. I have too for that matter, but I still have a very different take on the way they think and what motivates them. I suppose it's a matter of perspective in the end.(No humour intended)

Peace,
Bubba
