From the Party Guilty of Committing 'Gate of Ivory, Gate of Horn'

In today's 'comment would be superfluous' news...

An Australian (of course) farmer rang the fire brigade, believing he’d caught a whiff of gas. So he had done, too:

And Magdalen JCR has renamed itself Gryffindor. They are urging that – and do read this carefully –

Christ Church, St. Hugh’s and Merton ... should rename their common rooms Slytherin, Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw respectively’ (emphasis mine).

The reaction of those now up at the House is priceless.

I love the fact that the fire chief was so encouraging with his 'Better safe than sorry' attitude. We take Things Burning Down very seriously over here, as do the things.

And I am so pleased to be starting my visit in Oxford ;-)

Could have been serious. Had that sow been, say, a mascot for a California college football team, some drunk fratboy would have lit a match; all that methane and California being as prone to wildfires as your neck of the woods...

Speaking as a Johnnie, I find the whole thing ridiculous. Magdalen may call themselves whatever they please, but Merton as Ravenclaw? Please. Perhaps they ought to have a fifth house for those with excellent kitchens.

I'd have thought Johns for Slytherin, but I suppose the House would do.... Merton, on the other hand, are indubitably Ravenclaw. And I'd suggest Benet's for Hufflepuff.

Actually, my flatmate has just suggested Staggers for Slytherin. I think he may well be right.

I saw that about Magdalen. I was very amused.
