A Very Happy You-Know-What, and Many Happy Returns...

To mrs_knightley.

There do seem to be a number of March birthdays going 'round.  I realise June is a traditional time for weddings, but this is a bit steep.

On the bright side, my dear, you now share a birthday with the newest little Flintoff.

a selfish appeal

Wemyss, luv? I find myself suddenly and randomly miserable. (I expect it was giving the vampire, er, lab tech, six vials of my blood an hour or so ago.) Please remind me why you put up with me?

Good Morning.

Good thing I roused early to catch the cricket, such as it is, with appalling light (England are 200 - 5, 65 overs).

I don't 'put up with you', I enjoy you. You're clever, you give a much needed perspective on my silly fictive amusements, you write damned well yourself, and you always make me smile. 'Put up with you', indeed: it isn't a chore, you know.

You really must avoid Sanguini and Company, my dear, they seem to have a Dementor-like effect on you.

Re: Good Morning.

*hugs this to her like a favourite blanket just out of the dryer and purrs* I love you, too.

*laughs weakly* Yeah, I blame the anemia... and possibly the low blood sugar. *tight hug* Thank you, love; I needed this.

As to avoiding them, I do try, but when one's endrochrinologist demands.... he did say treatment was going well... which was why he wanted all that blood, to make sure.

Heh... well, as to Dementor treatments: chocolate, chamomile tea, warm fuzzy missives... I shall fold this up small and keep it in my pocketbook, for positive reinforcement. (all my nearest and dearest emotionally are so far away... it hurts, sometimes, not to really hug, so I need things like this sometimes to manage...)

Re: Good Morning.

'It isn't a chore, you know.'

I ended up borrowing this, words a bit paraphrased but sentiment intact, for a bit of scene I was doing. ^^ *hugs thankyou*

Tiny shoulders hunched a little tighter together. "...you don't have to stay up just for me," Shin'ichi told his knees.

"I don't?" Kaito wondered, sitting on the bed and putting a gentle arm around his brother. "I'm pretty sure it's in union rules..."

"What union rules?" Shin'ichi wondered grumpily, unbending enough to favour Kaito with a skeptical look. "There isn't any older brother union..."

"Sure there is," Kaito said merrily, using his other hand to poke up the pillows. "You're just not a Niichan (affectionate: older brother), so you don't know. Rule Number 1412: 'Older brothers have to make sure their little squirts sleep all right.'"

"...you're making that up," Shin'ichi said softly, but didn't resist when Kaito propped himself up against the headboard and pulled him close.

Kaito feigned dismay. "My otouto-chan(affectionate: younger brother) is accusing me of lying? I've broken another union rule! They'll kick me out and make you get a new big brother!"

Shin'ichi stiffened in his grip, lifting his head to look at him; for a moment the boy looked utterly horrified--until he saw the blinding grin and realised that his elder brother was pulling his leg.

Kaito was rather touched.

"You're a really bad liar," the boy said on a sigh, leaning his head on Kaito's chest. "You've broken that rule rather thoroughly; they're going to sue me for breaking my union agreements..."

Kaito smiled down at the sleep-mussed little form and adjusted his shoulders against the pillows behind him, settling down for the night. "Gonna keep me anyway, huh...?" the magician asked gently, beginning to stroke the boy's hair.

"Un," Shin'ichi said drowsily. "Too much trouble to get a new one... an' you--" he muffled a yawn. "...care 'bout the union rules, even if you keep breaking 'em... points for good intentions..."

"Well, thanks, Squirt," Kaito said gently. "It's nice to know you're willing to put up with me."

"Baaro (Idiot)," the boy said through a yawn. "You make it sound like a chore..."
