From the Party Guilty of Committing 'Gate of Ivory, Gate of Horn'

For those who, like me, are Up for the Ashes –

– and if you’re not, you’re a bloody fool – here is a quiz. How many Test cricketers for England or Australia can you name whose surnames are related to food, provender, drink, the kitchen, or the table?

For example, had either Arkell been capped for England in a Test match, that should count (Boddingtons, likewise. The Wadsworths don’t: Wadworth is the brewery, no ‘s’).

I make it eight-and-twenty all out.

Have at it.

OK, the two obvious ones are Alastair Cook and Alan Lamb. Presumably nicknames don't count, so Beefy Botham is out.

Swans are edible, so there's another: Graeme Swann.

Dominic Cork (as in wine?). Mark Butcher (but not, I think, his father).

Does Bob Berry count? He went on a tour Down Under, but I don't think he ever played in a Test.

I was waiting for further entries...

... You're on the right track. But don't forget booze.

(Why, yes, I AM up for the Ashes.)
