Right. We'll see if the 'calls' match the actual returns.
But not this morning. I'm for bed. Best of luck to the US - it currently appears you'll want it more than ever. But we shall see.

Keep calm and carry on, Britain, Canada and Australia. The Commonwealth may be all the hope the Free World has left.

ETA: Again.

Let's not count on the Cameroons, mind you.

All shall yet be well.

Re: Let's not count on the Cameroons, mind you.

True, but let's first see a Conservative government get in which doesn't have to wrap naked ambition in a wet lettuce leaf of a coalition partner to get the job done.

Absent an election in Australia which annihilates the current government (at least there is no stay-home factor), Stephen Harper is currently the Last of the Jedi Conservatives. If he falls, whither to?

Look at it this way.

The actual Leader of the Free World remains the same head of state as before - and has done and been for some time:

Her Majesty Elizabeth the Second, by the Grace of God, of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, of Antigua and Barbuda, of Australia, of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, of Barbados, of Belize, of Canada, of Grenada, of Jamaica, of New Zealand, of Papua New Guinea, of Saint Christopher and Nevis, of Saint Lucia, of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, the Solomon Islands, and of Her other Realms and Territories, Queen, Duke of Normandy, Duke of Lancaster, Lord of Mann, Head of the Commonwealth, Defender of the Faith.

Re: Look at it this way.

Sorry, old chap - must disagree. As fond of Her Majesty as I may be, the Pax Britannica (or at least, any realistic means Britain had of enforcing it) went out the door somewhere between 1939 and 1942.

After that, the torch was passed to the Prodigal Son. He has carried it faithfully and reliably, with occasional non-fatal fumbles, from then until early 2009. I don't know what's happened to it since. I hope it's still burning.

Her Majesty's authority may remain on the moral level, but sadly only on the moral level, and in today's world we need more than that. Meanwhile, the Prodigal Son seems intent on continuing to live out the worst levels of debauchery to which his Biblical counterpart sank before stumbling home begging for forgiveness.

She's the Queen of Canada.

And PM Harper is making the running just now. QEII QED....

It's an historic day: I agreed with Piers Morgan!

He tweeted: Cheer up Todd Akin: if it's a legitimate loss, the body has a way of shutting it down. #Election #Senate

Verily, I LOLled.

Amusing.

Although perhaps too apt.

Cheer up Todd Akin: if it's a legitimate loss, the body has a way of shutting it down.

Heh heh heh. Nicely done, that. You can't object to a barb coming from an enemy* when it's delivered with such skill. (Particularly when it's absolutely called for. Akin is IMO a fucking twit, and the sooner the GOP divests itself of foot-in-mouth knuckledraggers like him and what's the other worthless creature's name? - Mourdock or something like that - the better off it will be.)
