It's the anniversary of American independence, and almost time for tea.
Let's not dump it into any harbours, shall we? (I am looking directly at you two Bostonians on my friends-list, just now.)

Instead, we may celebrate with MSP's new book….

Benevolent Designs: The Countess and the General: George Washington, Selina Countess of Huntingdon, their correspondence, & the evangelizing of America is now available:

On Amazon Kindle (UK included);
In paper, at Amazon's CS page as it propagates to the main Amazon catalogue;
For those who prefer other e-formats, at Smashwords, whence it is propagating over the next few days to Apple iTunes bookstore, Kobo, Sony, B&N Nook, Diesel, and all that.

A very happy Independence Day to my American friends.

Going to make it the next book I get. (Should be later this week.) It sounds fascinating.

I think well of it.

And it's slyly funny. (The reason the Bethesda Orphan House in Georgia failed, says MSP, was poor management: it was used as a training ground for Evangelical missionaries who 'couldn't have organized an orgy in a whorehouse'; 'If Whitefield wrestled with his conscience [over slavery] ... he won'; and my favourite, about how Lady Huntingdon left the C of E: her appointment of chaplains went before 'an ecclesiastical court. The ecclesia won'.)

Glad to hear it's available for B&N Nook; I got a gift certificate for winter solstice (aka Christmas) and haven't spent it yet!

Soon.

It may take a few days to propagate to B&N. I think you'll find it worth the wait.

By the way.

A very happy Independence Day to my American friends.

Thanks much. It's also the bicentennial of the War of 1812 and, since this 1812 country, I've celebrated by taking a hound for a walk and standing on the hill (which is not Federal Hill) where Alfred Jacob Miller watched the bombardment of Fort McHenry (subsequent art was produced) and attended the local parade with military (ca.1812) band (I confess to tearing up when they played that wretched song, but I'm super easy). Tonight there will be blueberry cobbler and we will watch the fort being bombarded again (with fireworks).

So it is.

But we're all past that now. And you are, you know, eligible to join the Commonwealth.... (You'll want to brush up yr cricket, mind.)
