Remember This Day…
… Charles 1st, King and Martyr, who was judicially murdered this day 1649 by religious extremists, and died proclaiming the Anglican settlement and the Catholicity and sacramental character of the Church of England – and upheld by his death the principle that no man may be tried for crimes

imputed to him by a law ex post facto,
on an indictment that is on its face unlawful,
by a legislature that has taken authority to itself in defiance even of its own upper house,
upon the testimony of witnesses he is not allowed to confront or cross-examine,
without appeal.

Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses. I give thee charge in the sight of God, who quickeneth all things, and before Christ Jesus, who before Pontius Pilate witnessed a good confession; That thou keep this commandment without spot, unrebukeable, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ: Which in his times he shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords; Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen.

Oh, Anglican. I had the worst problem the other day - I was searching for the word, but simply could not remember it.

Forgive my irreverence, this is a beautiful post.

Happens to the best of, um, the best of ...

...what's the word? Right: the best of US. Think nothing of it.

Any of these things, or all of them taken together?

Any is worth defying.

Poor old Charles got all of 'em at once.
