Wizards. They're everywhere.

I mean, let’s be serious, shall we?  Gardeners improbably named Greenwood, Swithinbank, Titchmarsh, and Flowerdew are NOT Muggles.

Are you a telepath?

I don't know whether to laugh or cry; I've got Justin's dad buying stuff for his roses in Flowerdew's on Diagon. (This is a fic largely in my mind so far, only about 1000 rough words and many more to go.) Bob is so obviously not a Muggle.

(I was tempted towards "Flowerdew and Klein" simply because of Carol, but preferred "Flowerdew and Greenwood" namewise.)

You even mentioned with 'my' Unspeakables the other week. I don't know whether I've got the nerve to write them or not. (Not Dung, but a passing mention to a group of people I'm rather interested in for that role.)

Bah! or, in fact, Hoorah!

'Tele', no.

Other prefixes may apply.

Certainly if Titchmarsh is a Squib it would explain a lot...

It would certainly explain why so many women seem to find Titchmarsh sexy. It's the wizardly vibes.

Ack.

Well, there's no other reason, is there.

Wouldn't it, though.

Not least that line of seeds from Suttons.

Those names are all wonderful. And wizardish. Absolutely!

Thank you.

Wonder what John Cushnie thinks of the situation.

What about the inverse - what kind of names are very unlikely to be wizards?
wemyss From: wemyss Date: June 15th, 2006 02:31 pm (UTC) (Link)

Well, none, really, I suppose.

I just think it's easy to suspect that someone passing for a Muggle, isn't, when his surname and his job are too closely related (Farmer Fouracres, say). And if his Christian name is Terentius or Octavian or some damned thing, well....

Re: Well, none, really, I suppose.

I thought there might be some things in common in the names JKR gave her Muggles that I'm missing by not being British, since she likes symbolic names.

Not really, I think.

She goes a good deal by sound ('Dursley' may sound dreary, but in fact it's one of the prettiest old wool-towns in the Cotswolds).
