I Urge These Upon You.
Particularly to overseas readers.

Firstly, the current issue of The New Criterion, devoted to matters Britannic. If you wish to understand what I write and whence I am hewn, and, to an extent, if you wish to understand even certain canonical elements of the Potterverse, you want to have read every word of these brilliant notes, articles, and reviews - and now that the magazine is to be available in the UK, Home readers will want to subscribe (even if only to disagree and retort, depending on yr positions).

Secondly, again mostly for overseas readers, but also for the urbanised and inattentive anywhere, vital local colour, as it were: The Beeb’s Autumnwatch. Indispensable.

I can't imagine being gay and reading some of those articles. In general I am all in accordance with you and yours as far as the issue of the decline in discourse and civilisation, but I really don't think I can link that up with forcing women to carry unwanted pregnancies to term; and as someone who's been married to a gay man, I wish people who tout the kind of self-control that enables a man to do that would think of the cost to their wives, and the time they spend wondering what's wrong with them when the answer is 'nothing'.

Well ... I Am and I Do.

Which does not mean I agree with all things said therein, but am willing, as I'm sure you are, to engage the ideas and not to want an echo chamber in place of a hall of debate. We all want challenging in our various idiodoxies.

(Particularly, I suggest, those who make an orthodoxy of heterodoxy, and ponce about posing as tortured heroes all the bloody time, but that's material for another essay.)

I know that you, at least, are mature enough to do precisely waht I advocate: engage, and let yr thoughts be provoked. If nothing else, challenge forces a better and clearer defence, as you know.
