The phrase ‘tired and emotional’ shall henceforth be retired in favour of ‘pissed as a lorikeet’ (who says all the Aussie fauna are deadly?  Some are merely dead drunk).

Any Australian parrot will do. The native flowers on which they feed, particularly grevilleas and bottlebrush, are prone to fermenting in the heat (which is a common state), and it is not uncommon to find inebriated birds waddling about on the ground beneath trees squawking merrily.

My old cat, who was quite lethal to the introduced noisy miner, would never attack the lorikeets and rosellas that could be seen lurching about the native garden out the front of our place. Rather, she would sit there watching in what appeared to be amusement. Very sensible response. Especially given the beaks on those things.

I think that's a wonderful all-purpose catch-phrase.

'Any Australian parrot will do': I shall use that, in season and out.

I am so stealing that. Just so you know. I may in fact have it tattooed across my forehead after this week.

Oh, don't. There's a shortage of perfect foreheads in the world....

But you may have the phrase, and welcome.

Life is pain, Highness. Anyone who says differently is selling something.

I thank you kindly, sir. I'll use it with great affection (for the lorikeets and the originator.)

It's a far more accurate description. Lorikeets may get 'tired and emotional' too, but only after their drunken binges.

(I'd love to see a politician trying to blame fermentation.)

I wonder what the Australavian equivalent is...

... to 'discussing Ugandan affairs'?

Randy as a Wombat?

Australupial possibility

Not avian, but still. And lord knows what Emus get up to...
