Th’ Pollar Bhear: an Irish Song

(BBC: Polar bears have maternal Irish brown bear ancestors’)

Whaaaaan Oirish bhears are growlin’

Sure ’tis loike an Oirish dhay:

For ev’ry pollar bhear’s great-gran,

She came from ould Galway;

They lef’ green mither Oireland

Far away an’ long ago;

Ah, there wass no seals in E-e-e-rin,

So they left fooooooooooor th’ ice an’ snow.

The bhrown bhears o’ ould Oireland,

F’r Amerikay they lef’:

’Twas the fault o’ English bhears, ye know,

That they were thus beref’.

They could na live on tatties,

Nor convert ta heresy:

They’re pure white in the Arctic, now,

Martyrs o’ the Pollar Sea.

Someday the bhears to Oireland

Will with snow and ice return,

Whan the Shannon’s choked with ice-floes

And there’s nothin’ lef’ ta burn;

They’ll prowl ould mither Oireland,

Two-an’-thirty counties all,

And they’ll hunt the seals and natives both

’Round th’ igloos o’ Doooooooonegal.

It's as boggling to see as to hear apparently. The BF has a brogue so thick it gives me a headache, as does this. Thanks for the giggle though.

Peace,
Bubba

The problem with most bears, including those in the photographs accompanying the BBC story, is that they are every bit as cute and adorable as they are able to bite your head off.

Thank you for the laugh!

You are a crazy, crazy man. *grins*

This is hysterical. I remember seeing the BBC piece and thinking, hmmmm, how so? But I didn't think I'd see a song for it.
