There is something so comforting about the tradition and formality. My dad's funeral was a formal Catholic service and it was very peaceful--a time of bonding for my family. Of course a soloist sang the Ave Maria. :)

I want to be recycled, but I wouldn't mind a rousing chorus or two of Dies Irae at a memorial service. In a bar.

Which musical setting?

The hiss and giggle of the keg, the clink of glasses and bottles, and if you need timpani, crush your beer can against your forehead...

Ashes to ashes

My thoughts on the subject seem to change from year to year, but I'm leaning more toward cremation now. My grandparents' ashes were scattered in the Pacific Ocean, my mother has chosen that as her preference as well, my stepfather wants *his* ashes to be scattered up in his favorite spot in the Sierras.

If the Pacific Ocean is a good enough resting place for my grandparents and (in the long future, I hope) for my mother, it's more than good enough for me.

My husband is less than helpful on the subject. When queried, he simply sings, "Send me to Glory in a Glad Bag," which would be neither legal nor sanitary.

Re: Ashes to ashes

Cremate him first. Then put him in a Glad bag. Perfectly legal.
