He at last gets to discuss the matter with the relevant authority. Pity he can't report his findings back.

I would like to think he gets a pass upstairs for railing against all the bullshit that is done in God's* name.

Now his being an atheist makes a lot more sense to me. This is the ultimate result of the Whig theory of history. It's not history, but it looks enough like it so that an intelligent man may be mistaken.

One of my favourite political bloggers (and, like Hitchens, an atheist) was a huge fan of his, and said the following last night:

"Hitchens being Hitchens, I wonder which he anticipated more eagerly — the end of the pain or finally knowing if he was right about you know what. I suspect he was right. I hope we’re both wrong."
