Blest pair of sirens. - Wemyss's Appalling Hobby:
From the Party Guilty of Committing 'Gate of Ivory, Gate of Horn'
Blest pair of sirens.

First Delingpole, then Noe.

So: what am I rejoiced to listen to of late?

There’s a very nice recent baroque release by Danielle De Niese and the English Concert.

John Lenehan with John Wilson and the Royal Liverpool have quite rightly tackled John Ireland’s piano pieces.

Fretwork have transcribed and play the Goldberg Variations on viols.

Jonas Kaufmann has a collection of verismo arias out.

There’s always on my playlist the Wicked Tinkers, the Red Hot Chilli Pipers, the Tannies, and the RSDG Pipe Band.

And of course Mika.

The bloody Tabs, of course. The Salisbury cathedral choristers also.

And then there’s, always, DLM. You lot?

Comment here or at DW.

Recently I've gone back to a favourite and enormous field: Beethoven's beautiful adaptations of folksongs from various parts of Europe - mostly Irish, Scots and English, but there are a few glorious Italian items too. This is what he did with Byron's Lochnagar

I wish someone would do a double album of Beethoven with texts by great poets. There are enough - Byron, Burns, Goethe and Schiller, for instance.

What a super idea.

I shall have to pass that on to someone or other. Full credit, of course.

And from that I conclude...

... you really must wax familiar w the Tannahill Weavers whilst you're at it.

Always Mika!

Lovely list. Do you know of any listening links for de Niese - the album looks very good indeed?

Alas, I've not been listening to many songs lately, but Mika never fails to make me smile! I always put his record on in the car.

I've been enjoying an ensemble who play with Baroque instruments and techniques so you hear how the pieces would have sounded way back when.

Can't remember how to do links on here, but this is Pachelbel's Canon in D, Original Instruments:

How lovely.

Whilst not a fanatic abt it, I do like the original instruments movement in music.
