From the Party Guilty of Committing 'Gate of Ivory, Gate of Horn'
2011: the fics wot I wrote. (More tea, Ern?)

That was the year that was.

Evidently, it is the Done Thing to go back over the year just past and state what you’ve written in fandom. I think that wise in my case, as very little of it seems to have been read. Then again, I also have been busy with real work myself (vide Bapton Books), and do not at all complain that others have been. I merely note that you many of you quite likely missed these.

In no particular order, then:

Remember, Remember. One day, four-and-twenty hours, in British Wizardom, from 12.1 AM at Lowestoft Ness to midnight succeeding at Tearaght. Births, deaths, storms, times, and tides: a day’s life, lived. I am particularly pleased with this one.

The Secret Ministry. Not, by the bye, about the Ministry. A winter meditation for Our Noe. (January 2012, but why not list it?)

Timeo Danaos. In which Draco suffers culture shock.

A question of distribution. Alan Bennett meets La Rowling.

The Fourth Plinth. Skulduggery and spies.

Sanctuary. Femme and Noe asked for H/D in a monastery. Welcome to the civil war between the Empress Maud and Stephen of Blois.

The little platoon. The telly perplexes Draco. And Justin, for that matter: terribly down-market, these programmes….

That palace of the soul serene. Harry, Draco, and the cricket match.

We happy few. Not all of Justin’s people have been Gunners. One or two were amongst The Few.

4, 5, 7, 11, 21: Arithmantic Series and Oneiromantic Analyses. It does not do to dwell in dreams. But Harry is there to chase the nightmares away.

While I thy amiable cheeks do coy. Draco has a fetish for Harry in a Tottenham strip – or, better, out of it.

Lachrymose Lager. Malt does more than Milton can….

Chì mi na sgoran fo cheò: Only winds and rivers, life and death. Erised Big Bang fic (they left off promoting the stories in turn before they quite got ’round to mine, so you mayn’t have seen it. At least the art is excellent). Teddy Lupin, who has a job of academic research in hand, blags his godfather and his cousin – Uncle Harry and Uncle Draco – into taking with him, an Autumn voyage from Orkney to Inverness, and through the Caledonian Canal to Fort William and the Road to the Isles, in hopes that they’ll get sorted and realise they’re as destined a couple as their sons are. He’d not thought that it should want trows, hogboons, revenant Vikings, the great each-uisge of Loch Ness, assassins, international incidents, and the People of Peace to effect that end.

‘Phantasticall Zeale’. For Femme: visiting Yank witches stagger Hermione and egg on Harry and Draco.

Right Royal Wizardry: At a solemn music and Cakes and ale: the Englishman: Wizardom celebrates the Royal Wedding … and Harry goes to Pakistan on duty.

Summoned by Spells: Teddy’s verse autobiography, in which he confronts the Black past, serious parental (and especially paternal) Abandonment Issues (as the Yanks say), a Celebrated Godfather, and a Formidable Grandmother; from the Next Gen Fest. Or here.

Sir Roger de Coverley: a Christmas Oratorio: for Trebles, Basso, Tenor, Far Too Many Altos and Sopranos, and Chorus. From NextGenMas; In which Harry goes a bit mad at the thought of having Al’s young man’s ferrety father stop with them at Christmas, Al has Cunning Plans to make use of the impending social disaster, Thoroughly Nice Scorpius serenely sabotages the prospect of unpleasantness, Teddy howls – with laughter, James and Lily and Rose are Stroppy In the Extreme, Draco does his overly-dramatic martyr turn, and the remaining Black-Sisters-as-Were dispose competently of everyone’s errors.

Rogation. From Dudley Redeemed: in which Uncle Dudley passes on arcane knowledge to the young Al and Scorp. What Dudley had noticed was that – having taken Elspeth’s tuition to heart, and concentrating nowadays upon his companions rather than his food (and stringently healthful food it was, under her hawklike eye) – he now noticed things, whilst others were talking across one another and stuffing themselves. Odd that a healthful dietary regimen had given him a character for acute observation, but there it was.

This Be the Verse. From Dudley Redeemed: in which Dudley tells young Master Malfoy a few home truths.

I think that’s it.

I am pleased you put up this list, because I missed at least half of them! Now to start downloading prior to reading.

I'm greatly obliged.

(by which I mean more praise than the faint sort which accompanies damnation)

With each of your stories (or chapters) I have read has come the disconcerting, if not precisely unpleasant, sensation of having ingested — plainly speaking, eaten, binding & all — a volume of that most valuable & yet worthless of publications, in which all knowledge is contained but from which it cannot be gotten out again except once in a long while & then by accident, the inimitable (though who would dare?) Notes & Queries.
I suppose the impression was strongest with Gate of Ivory, Gate of Horn, owing to its structure of loosely-connected vignettes ; but in any case I certainly mean no complaint, considering that I am one of those wretched wights who read for pleasure N&Q, or Fowler, or any number of other things not conventionally regarded as fit for such purpose, which you certainly surpass in plotting & quite generally in style.

Yes, I fear so.

Marmite, rather, my scribblings.
