These are remarkable.

Thank you for sharing these videos with us; I feel you have freed my eyes of blinders. Larkin is a terrific poet, of whom I have read much, but never before had I heard him or really envisioned him as a person reflecting upon a place (or places) other than the white space and black lines of the printed page. A revelation: "One writes the poetry one has to write."

- and of course Betjeman wholly so. Even though they were both, in their ways, utter shits, quite often. And I think it significant that they are indeed both, as you note, poets of place as well as of mood. I have been preaching, from my own experience, for years, the impossibility of not being governed by one's material: one writes what one must write, and the form teaches the writer: and I make quite certain that Larkin is responsible for my having grasped that. I'm delighted that you feel the same and were engaged and uplifted by these links.
